Gaby Smyth studied at UCD (B. Sc Hons, HDE), University of Limerick (M.A), Leinster School of Music (LLSM), and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (FCA). Gaby is also an Accredited Mediator (CEDR, London). He has been in business and taxation consultancy for thirty years, specialising in the literary, music, film and theatre arts – representing and advising many major Irish and international practitioners in these areas.
In representing clients across many international jurisdictions, Gaby works closely with teams of specialist advisers – talent agents, legal & taxation professionals, business managers, publicity agents – to ensure clients get
the best and most comprehensive advice available.
Gaby has also been involved in the leadership and governance of many arts organisations in Ireland. He was chair of the boards of Temple Bar Gallery & Studios, Corn Exchange Theatre Company, and TEAM Educational Theatre Company. He was also chair of the boards of the Dublin International Film Festival and Opera Theatre Company, and was inaugural chair of Irish National Opera. Gaby was the non-executive chair of Boulder Media Ltd., a major Irish animation company, and the first independent chair of Screen Producers Ireland, the umbrella organisation for the film, animation and TV industry in the state. Between 2001 – 2005, he was chair of Amnesty International Ireland, and again from 2010 to 2014. He was also chair of the International Chairs’ Forum for Amnesty International.
